Artist's Psychobabble - take with a grain of salt. Form your own impressions.

(Cosmic Chess) is an assemblage made from a chess board and various "found" objects, which can actually be played. Similarly to "Cosmic Checkers", the squares on the board compare the depths of starry space with what appears to be a wheat field on earth. Look more closely, and you discover the "stars" are actually paint splatters and the "wheat" is a photographic closeup of cat fur. The roses are actually paper. The pieces are a mishmash of artifice, nature, and technology. There is an opposition of colors and materials, of dark/light and up/down, but there is also an order out of chaos. Some of the pieces have been appropraited from the hardware store, others from the toy store, and still others from a photo darkroom. What is real, and what is fake?
