"Mokume Gane" is adapted from an ancient Japanese technique of metalworking and is widely used for polymer clay.Thin sheets of contrasting colors of clay are stacked up and impressed or pushed up or folded/smooshed, then part of the clay is sliced or sanded off so you can see a pattern made with the different layers. This box uses dark blue, metallic pearl blue, pearl green, pearly purple, and black with glitter inclusions. The cut sheet was passed through a pasta machine to thin and smooth it out, carefully fitted and smoothed over the top and bottom of a metal Altoids box, baked, and sanded smooth. It was then coated with polyurethane and baked again to harden the finish.
