Altered Book Pages- Chakra HandBook - Manipura 3

(Second page) Altered book, magazine clippings, solid and pearlescent inks, metallic leafing pen, rubber stamps 2009
The third chakra is called Manipura, and it is associated with the energy of fire. It is located in the area of the solar plexus and is involved with our vitality, will, and overcoming inertia. While the second chakra is considered "yin" - receptive - and watery, the third chakra is "yang" - active - and fiery. The chakras are believed to spin like wheels with the motion of the energy flowing upwards and downwards, and the rotation of each chakra is in opposite direction to the chakra above and below it, all moving together like a set of gears.
The pages are bright fiery yellow. The theme repeats with magazine clippings of fire and with metallic leafing at the top, silhouetting the yellow color of the pages as fire again. A sun stamped in gold rises above the left-hand window, while a column of small stamped flowers rises below and above the window on the right (the blue flower is easily visible, but the other yellow flowers take effort to see against the background). Two cutout gears spin on the right. The glow from the second chakra burns out from the left-hand window, while the cool green of the fourth chakra can be seen coming in on the right thumb.
