Altered Book Pages- Chakra HandBook - Visuddha 5

(Fourth page) Altered book, magazine clippings, solid and metallic inks, colored pencil, rubber stamps 2009
Visuddha, the fifth chakra, is associated with communication and expression, and also often thought of as involving creativity - synthesizing ideas into symbols. It is located in the throat area and related to vibrational energy. While the first four chakras symbolize material elements (earth, water, fire, and air), the fifth and other upper chakras are associated with spirit, or "ether".
The fifth chakra is a bright blue hue, dabbed on with light and pearlescent inks. Part of the vibrational quality is shown with inked "ripples"radiating outward from the right-hand window, and a magazine cutting of sound waves runs along the lower part of the page. Fingerspelled words ("communication" and "expression") stamped in dark blue march across the hands, while more fingerspelling stamped in almost-invisible silver covers much of the surface. Another hand image, with an eye in its palm, emerges below the left window (which has a subtle green glow) and a stamped ray symbol extends outwards above. A fortuitously found text magazine clipping at the right, partially overstamped with ghostly fingerspelling hands, reads "Communication is not a simple process. As individuals, we approach each other with our own unique sets of experiences that necessarily color the way we convey and receive messages. Our words can fall short of our true intentions. Our ideas can get lost in our drawings. Whether it be the transfer of information through text, speech, or a complex diagram, there are inherent factors involved which compete with a message's clarity." The indigo of the next chakra is barely glimpsed at the right edges.
