Utah in April
Photos of a bunch of snowy mountains, April 2008

I flew up to Orem, Utah for the Deaf Studies Today! conference at Utah Valley University (and also because some of my art was in the associated De'VIA Deaf Art Exhibit). I had a bit of free time in between attending conference presentations and explaining my art to school children, so took a few snapshots. Enjoy!

Looks nice and rural, doesn't it? Actually, Orem is a decent-sized modern city next door to Provo, in the foothills of Mt. Timpanogos. I wasn't really interested in the bland semi-suburban shopping-mall cityscape, so tried to omit it from the pictures.
All the pictures here were taken within walking distance, mostly from the southeastern side of Utah Valley University looking across campus.
This nice "country road" actually goes around UVU. Notice how the grass is green while there's snow on the mountain top (which melted within a few days).
Looking northeast towards Mount Timpanogos in the heart of the Wasatch Range.
What a difference a day makes! This and the previous photo were from almost the same vantage point. In the less than a week I was here, it ranged from freezing to a balmy high 70's and the weather alternated between rain, snow, gusty winds, and sun. If you don't like the weather at the moment, just wait and it'll change. A little difficult to get bored with the climate!
Small snowstorm a night or so ago, maybe an inch on the valley floor.. but notice how the snow is already melting near the bottom of the mountain.
Storm clouds clearing... this was taken in the afternoon, looking westward across Utah Lake toward the foothills on the other side.

A couple days later I visited the southern part of the Great Salt Lake before flying back home... now that was a different world!
